Be Proactive About Your Eye Health (written for How To Better Eyesight)
We so often take our vision for granted until it becomes impaired-or worse, we have our vision taken from us. So many of people consider glasses, contacts, or expensive surgery as their only options for seeing well again. Actually, you can learn and do eye exercises to improve your vision. You could even improve your vision so dramatically that you may not need glasses or contacts anymore.
If you eat healthy foods and exercise now for your body's sake, you can basically do the same thing for your eyes and get similar results-more healthy eyes as the years go on.
One minor eye issue that some have is red or puffy eyes. If you suffer from this, you can put aloe vera gel or coconut oil around your eye area. That area is so thin and transparent, and it requires very gentle handling. If you experience with eyestrain and an overall feeling of "tiredness" in your eyes, look for ways to relieve stress in your life. Yoga, deep breathing, and some forms of meditation may serve you well.
Deep breathing and blinking can be a great way to rest your eyes. Try looking as far away as possible, taking a deep breath in, and then look down as far as possible and exhale. Next, blink your eyes multiple times. You can repeat this same exercise with your head looking to the far left and then the far right. Also, do the exercise moving your head in the diagonal directions.
Your diet plays a role in your eye health. Eating plenty of leafy greens will give you iron, vitamin A, B, and C, and it will purify your blood. Eggs too are very good for your eyes-especially the nutrients in the yolks. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables are a great choice for your eye health. Look for those that are rich in beta-carotene, such as: carrots, papaya, mangoes, squash, and spinach.
Resting Your Eyes
Many people come across a time in their lives when their eyesight becomes blurry. If the situation is troublesome enough to interfere with a person's day, the most logical step that most people take is to visit an optician and get a prescription for glasses or contacts.
While optometrists do serve a purpose, prevention of health concerns is preferable to correction and treatment. If you are in the habit of taking good care of your body, you can do the same for your eyes. And taking care of your eyes is very easy, really. It mostly involves relaxing and unwinding them regularly. Eyes get tense throughout the day and rest very little. So, just as you might exercise your muscles via lifting weights and then allowing for recovery time, you can treat your eyes the same way. Use them a little, and then rest them.
How do you rest your eyes? Palming, massaging them gently, and paying attention to their warning signs of fatigue are great places to start. If you commit to doing both strengthening and resting them, you can truly avoid the need for eyeglasses.
Since we use our eyes (exercise our eyes) every day without much thought-even to the point of strain, learning how to relax them might be the most important skill to learn. Find a quiet place, close your eyes, and purpose your mind to relax and be calm for around fifteen minutes or so. Experts say that you cannot relax your eyes unless you relax your mind first. Interestingly, if you are annoyed and bothered, your eyes will jump all around-matching that emotional state. And, they will continue to do so even if you close your eyes.
To completely relax your mind and eyes, you will probably need to change your location and close your eyes. Or, you can look completely away from your work area, far away perhaps outside a window. Relax your eyes by observing pleasant views without straining or staring. Continue to take short breaks throughout the day and you will experience improved vision.
Diet and Good Lifestyle Habits Make For Better Eyesight
Kids today increasingly are suffering from poor eyesight. Keep a watch out for symptoms of weak eyes: burning eyes that become watery, persistent cold symptoms, regular headaches, impaired vision, and hazy vision. In some of these children, their eyesight is suffering because of nutritional deficiency.
A balanced diet and lifestyle is required for kids to avoid weakening eyesight. Kids need vitamin A especially for healthy eyes. Lettuce promotes healthy eyes. Papaya, bananas, carrots, broccoli, and spinach contain good doses of vitamin A. Peanuts and raisins are also good for eyesight. Children should be ingesting vitamin C, also; oranges, lemons, tomatoes, will all support the health of the eyes.
Herbs such as oregano, parsley, and turmeric improve eyesight. Omega 3-fatty acids found in tuna, mackerel, and salmon are favorable choices, along with egg yolks and dairy product. Foods rich in sulfur are beneficial also, such as onion, garlic, shallots, and capers.
In addition to monitoring eating habits, avoid watching TV for long hours or working on computers. Reading in too little light is not a good idea. And, too much alcohol is ill-advised for optimal eyesight also.
